Dear neighbor,
As we prepare for the 2025 session of the Indiana General Assembly, I wanted to share that I have been appointed to three committees: Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development, Financial Institutions and Public Policy. I and my colleagues on these committees will work to determine which bills assigned to the committee will move forward to the House of Representatives.
I will serve as Ranking Minority Member of Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development. As a small business owner, I know firsthand the challenges many entrepreneurs face while they simultaneously help grow their local economies. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House Democratic Caucus and across the aisle to help small business owners and their employees thrive and help bolster the state’s economy.
2025 Legislative Agenda
This session, I will introduce legislation to protect renters from undue landlord pet policies, help local vendors for local vendors and to allow more freedom in burial practices, among others.
Many of the issues I plan to tackle this session were brought to my attention by District 82 residents. Hearing directly from constituents helps me best represent our community while at the Statehouse, so please always feel free to contact my office about any concerns at h82@iga.in.gov.
In the coming days, I’ll have a legislative survey available online for District 82 residents so neighbors can share their thoughts on several issues impacting our community and state.
FSSA announces voucher waitlist
This month, the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) announced a waitlist for the Indiana Childcare Development Fund and On My Way Pre-K voucher programs, effective immediately. New applicants will automatically be put on the waitlist until further notice due to all federal childcare funds being maximized in the state of Indiana.
As we head into a budget session, it is crucial that we do all we can to allocate funds to affordable, high-quality childcare. Currently, Indiana is ranked worst in the nation for access to childcare, and no county in the state is currently meeting the criteria for adequate access to care.
Access to childcare helps countless Hoosier parents get back in the workforce to provide for their growing families, and we as lawmakers have an obligation to create — and fund — as many pathways as we can to these programs.
This session, I and my fellow House Democrats will be doing whatever we can to allocate funds specifically for childcare. I echo House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta in his calls for the majority party to fulfill their obligation to Hoosiers to address this issue.
Learn more about the waitlist on the FSSA website here.
Don’t forget your flu shot!
It’s not too late to get your flu vaccine this year. The Allen County Department of Health reports that cases of the flu, COVID-19 and RSV are common this time of year, and vaccines are the best way to keep yourself and your families safe this holiday season.
For more information on where you can get your flu shot, click here. As many of us prepare to gather with our families and loved ones, please remember to stay home if you’re experiencing flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough or fatigue.
New partnership will expand affordable housing in Allen County
This week, the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne announced a collaboration with Fort Wayne-based financial technology platform Club 720. This partnership will help build homes in Fort Wayne, as well as help families that make less than the program’s minimum income find resources to improve their economic security and reapply for the program at a later date.
Access to safe and affordable housing is an issue many Hoosiers throughout the state are struggling with. The local Habitat for Humanity is a great resource for those struggling with housing insecurity in Allen County, and I welcome any initiative that will help more Fort Wayne families find a home and economic security.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays, District 82!
In Service,
Rep. Kyle Miller
