INDIANA TECH CYBER DEFENSE TEAM OFF TO NATIONALS
Earlier this month, the Cyber Warriors, Indiana Tech's Cyber Defense Team, won their fourth Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition Midwest Regional championship, advancing the team to the national competition in San Antonio. The Cyber Warriors have won 15 Indiana Collegiate Cyber Defense Competitions and last attended nationals in 2018.
The Cyber Warriors are known nationally for their impressive record and demonstrated accomplishments in cybersecurity. According to the team's webpage, all full-time team members from the last ten years earned jobs right after graduation and have gone on to work for tech giants like Apple, Cisco and Microsoft.
It is exciting to see the efforts of these incredibly talented students pay off. I want to extend my congratulations to the Cyber Warriors and their coach Matt Hanson as they move forward to the nationals. We will all be cheering you all on from the home front!
FORT WAYNE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BACKS EFFORT TO RENAME CITY STREET
Due to the efforts of the local Martin Luther King Jr. Club, Calhoun Street will be renamed to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Calhoun Street's namesake, John Calhoun, was the country's seventh vice president, and also a noted slave owner and staunch supporter of slavery. The Fort Wayne Community Schools board unanimously supported the petition headed by the Martin Luther King Jr. Club's on Monday to rename the street.
While we can't erase our troubled history, we can make the conscious decision to do better. The people who we choose to honor matters, and I am proud that we are making progress in celebrate those whose actions deserve recognition, rather than commemorating those who committed atrocious acts.
